Two weeks ago, we closed on the construction loan. Ever since then, we look at the lot to see if anything is happening. Well, as I left to pick up kids from school today, I noticed something new! A trackhoe has been delivered to the lot. The contractor came by this evening to get all the necessary paperwork (building permit, etc.) Perry went over with him and helped him stake out the house. They will start digging in the morning!!! Yeah!!! Finally!!!

It looks like we may start digging this next week. We obtained a building permit from the city a week and a half ago. We are now waiting on the contractor to send the bank an amended cost breakdown. The one he sent was several thousand dollars more than the first breakdown he sent them. They didn’t like the way he filled out the first one. I guess banks can be pretty picky. The contractor was on vacation last week and was unable to be reached. So…maybe Monday he can fax the bank the info and we can get on to closing!
The picture is of the EMPTY lot! We were finally able to move all the race cars, trailers, cars and other stuff off of it. It looks pretty empty now! As you can see, we will have quite the view. Kind of like the view we had here before they built all the houses behind us!
Just watched Michael Phelps win his eighth gold medal. What an accomplishment! I wonder if it will take another 36 years to break that record!!
We are slowly getting this place ready to sell. We cleared out another bedroom downstairs. Only the family room and the food storage room left to go. Then clean, clean, clean. What a pain.
School starts in a couple of weeks here. The adults are looking forward to it, and some kids also. Katie is chomping at the bit to start fourth grade. Caleb is not so enthusiastic about starting third grade. Jennifer will be in fourth grade also, and she loves school. Corey starts Jr. High!! Ugh – we’re getting old! Hannah will be in fifth grade, and Hunter starts Kindergarten! Madisyn starts Kindergarten also. Natalie is only two and a half, but she is starting a new daycare! They are all growing up so fast!

Wow! I thought it would be easy to just sit down and start writing. Not so. I have no problem at all talking! I hope it will get easier as I go along and get used to typing my thoughts.
A huge thank you to Kay, the guru of all things computerish. All I had to do was ask, and a few days later, here I am with my own blog! I have no idea how it all works, but I hope to have a lot of fun with it. Thanks!
As the title of this blog indicates, we are expecting a new house. Perry and I have no children together, but I think that building a house may evoke the same feelings and emotions as a pregnancy – anticipation, excitement, fear, pain, and many more that I’m not aware of yet! I am so excited to have a house that we can call ours. It surprises me at times when I realize that I’ve lived here for 14 years. I think the time is right for me to strike out and be creative in my own way!
Before we actually start building, a little history of our building lot. The entire length of New Mexico Street was originally owned by TG, the company that Perry worked for before being bought out by FMC (whom he is currently employed by). These were mobile home lots, long and narrow, that had mobile homes on them that TG provided for their employees during the first “boom” in Green River. When I moved to Green River in 1980, the trailers were all gone, and the street was empty and barren. FMC bought out TG in 1998, and shortly after decided it didn’t want to be in the real estate business in Green River. The lots were offered to former TG employees at a very discounted price. We jumped at it (about the best thing financially that we’ve ever done)! Perry and I and three other couples bought five lots and subdivided them into four, making each lot wider. Our lot is the largest of the four, 101′ wide at the street, and about 195′ long at the longest point. We named our little four-lot subdivision “Rocky Ridge,” because there are LOTS of rock and not much dirt! So, we’ve had this property for about eight years, and in the last two to three years have seen it quadruple in value! (second Green River boom)! New Mexico Street is no longer empty and barren. In fact, there is only one other lot on the street besides ours that doesn’t have a house on it!
We finally got up the courage to make a decision to try to build on it. With the help of some friends of ours in the ward, we got a contractor (his brother), who gave us a bid that was significantly lower than any contractor around here. He is out of Vernal, UT, and can build for way less. I think he just isn’t as greedy as the ones from around here! We started this process in March, and the bank finally told us last week that we had been approved for the construction loan. We can thank the mortgage mess for that ridiculous delay! The building permit is under review now, and as soon as we close on the loan, the hole will be dug!!!
The next horrible thing that we have to do is to sell this house! Perry has been here for 30-some years, and I have been here for 14. Talk about a bunch of stuff! We have been working on this for months, and we just don’t seem to make any progress. The market is starting to soften here, and we just pray that we find a buyer quickly. If we do, we will be living in the camper for awhile (till it starts getting cold) then into an apartment. Just to save as much $$$ as we can!
Well, there you have it. My first post. I guess you should ignore the first paragraph. Seems I can write just as much as I can talk. I will be posting pictures as the work progresses, and maybe I’ll slip in some photos of the grandkids, too! That will be for another time when I learn how to do that.
